Do soulmates exist?

The True Soulmate

Saint Augustine said, “Our hearts are made for you, Lord, and they are restless until they rest in you.” Christians believe that God creates every human person to know, love, and serve God in this life and be with God in eternal life. Our true and perfect “soulmate” is none other than God.

On a human level, God desires that we experience companionship and love (“it is not good for man to be alone” – Gn 2:18). However, no other human being will ever completely, perfectly, or continually fulfill the desires of the individual human heart. While there are people who will be more or less complementary to our human character, no one will fill that place within us
that the Lord has created for Himself.

Friends and spouses search for compatible “others” with whom to share life. Such human relationships are most successful when they aren’t expected to be perfect.
