Can most things in society be plainly categorized into evil and good?

Weeds Among the Wheat

Jesus used various parables to describe that mixture of good and evil which is an ongoing reality in our world. Only God is perfectly good. As human beings, grace inspires and enables us to seek holiness despite being wounded and disordered by the effects of sin.

Because society is influenced by human beings, social realities usually manifest that same mixture of good and evil which is present in individual persons. As such, there are very few, if any, social things that are intrinsically, completely or purely good or evil in themselves.

This reality should not lead us into a complacency which tolerates evil nor a relativism which diminishes it. We have the responsibility and capacity to discern what is good according to the mind of Christ and to pursue with all our heart, mind, strength and soul. Indeed, through grace God can even bring about good from our wounded nature.
