* HOLY WEEK *

April 2, 2023 - April 9, 2023

Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, the day Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey. On this day, we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into the city. It is a time to remember the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Holy Week is a time for great joy and celebration. It is a time to remember the love that Jesus showed for us and to renew our hope in his resurrection. The Paschal Triduum—from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday is a time for our final preparation for the Resurrection.

  • On Holy Thursday, we commemorate the Last Supper, the meal that Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion.
  • On Good Friday, we commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus. On this day, we pray for forgiveness and mercy.
  • On Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil), we commemorate the burial of Jesus. On this day, we pray for the hope of resurrection of Christ in the sacraments and awaiting his return in glory. It is the turning point of the Triduum, the Passover of the new covenant, which marks Christ’s passage from death to life.

On Easter Sunday, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. On this day, we celebrate the triumph of life over death.

Holy Week is a time for reflection and renewal. It is a time to remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and to renew our commitment to him. During Holy Week, there are many special services and events that you can participate in. These services and events help us to deepen our faith and to celebrate the mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection. Check your parish websites and bulletins, where you can find out what is happening in your parish.
