What causes God to intervene in earthly affairs?

Revelation and Love

God continuously upholds the existence of the world, natural order and all life. Existence itself would cease without this constant divine creative act. Christians believe that God carries out this creative work as an expression of love and the desire for relationship with human beings.

Additionally, there are times when God intervenes in an extraordinary way in earthly affairs. These interventions are also an expression of God’s love and care especially for those who suffer and have no one else to help them. These acts of special providence are revelatory and reassure us of God’s presence, care and love for us which hopefully leads us to deeper faith, confident trust and greater cooperation with God’s will every day.

The Acts of the Apostles mentions several such extraordinary divine interventions in the life of the Early Church. Psalm 125:2 praises God for the great works that have been done in history.
